Denis McFadden hopes to return to his winning hairdressing ways in the UK at the upcoming Franchise Show at London next month.
With over 27 years in Franchising, Just Cuts™ has grown to be the largest hairdressing company in the Southern Hemisphere, performing over 90,000 haircuts per week!
This isn’t the first time that hairdresser, Denis McFadden, has spent time in our Capital. In 1967 he arrived at Southampton Docks as part of a world cruise with P&O, styling the hair of first-class passengers. In the same year, at the age of 21, and having decided to stay in London for a while, Denis won the Richard Henry inter-salon colour trophy final in London. In the Hairdressers’ Guide review of the awards he said, “I consider London as the world centre for hair fashion so this win is a particularly proud moment for me.”
Just two years later, Denis opened his very first salon, Dantes, in Seymour Place in London, running it for 10 years before returning to Australia in 1979. In 1983, he decided to run a simple promotion to boost business at his humble salon in Sydney and offered all clients a “no appointment, $6 Style Cuts™”. The response was outstanding and the idea of Just Cuts™ was born.
In 1990, the first Just Cuts™ franchise opened in the suburb of Engadine, in the south of Sydney, Australia. Since then, expansion has seen over 190 salons open in Australia and New Zealand.
Over 30 years later, Denis is returning to The Franchise Show at London’s Excel on 17-18 February with the goal of opening Just Cuts’ 200th salon in London in 2017. Whilst you still don’t need an appointment at a Just Cuts franchise, today’s charge is closer to £20 than $6.
Denis explains, “Over the years, we have had many English and Irish backpackers who have travelled to Australia and New Zealand seeking work in our various salons. When the time comes for them to depart the question remains – when will Just Cuts be coming to the UK? It’s motivated us to make the move with the goal of entering and owning the UK market!”
